Andrew Zimmern is going to show you that the best place for a travel recommendation comes by conversing with your friendly taxicab driver.
We understand if you are hesitant, considering the state of some cab companies around the world.
But the hesitation should melt away rather nicely with the host of “Bizarre Foods” taking the helm of a new show called, as of this moment, “Meter’s Running.”
The StarTribune’s Neal Justin explains: “The premise: Zimmern taps cabbies to lead him on a locals-only exploration of their cities, from a shikara driver in Kashmir to a taxi driver in the Deep South.”
For those not familiar with the food television host, here is a snippet of his adventure through the Gulf Coast:
Eating rare delicacies like nutria has become a staple of the show. If it’s odd or seemingly unsavory, chances are great that Zimmern has tried it.
In a similar manner, the new Travel Channel show will illustrate a figurative road less traveled to tourists by inviting some conversation with the men and women who squire you about town.
According to the report, the show will get eight episodes to start. Unfortunately, we will have to remain patient for information on premiere dates.
Until then, we encourage you to lob a softball question during your next trip. Ask you driver where they suggest to eat and you may just be pleasantly surprised by the result.
