Boxer David Haye's Emirates Flight Canceled Due to a Mouse
There are many reasons for the cancellation of a flight, but former boxing champion David Haye learned Sunday night that a mouse discovered onboard a plane is enough for an airline to cancel the trip until the following day.
According to John Hutchinson of The Daily Mail, Haye was taking his seat on an Emirates flight from Birmingham, England, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, when a man onboard began to scream because he saw a mouse on the plane.
The flight crew aboard the Boeing 777-300ER tried to capture the small rodent for 30 minutes, but it eventually escaped into one of the vents on the plane. The Emirates crew made the decision that the flight could not continue until the mouse was found, and passengers were forced to stay overnight in Birmingham.
An Emirates spokesperson told The Daily Mail, “Emirates can confirm that flight EK038 from Birmingham to Dubai returned to stand shortly after pushback as a rodent was detected on board. Passengers were accommodated in hotels overnight and are now being re-routed on other available Emirates flights to Dubai. Engineering and cleaning teams are working to clear the aircraft to re-enter service. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
Despite Emirates being nice enough to provide hotel rooms and re-book the passengers, Haye was not happy and commented on the incident through his official twitter account:
On tarmac & flight got cancelled as tiny mouse running around cabin. So spending another night. What's hot in Birmingham tonight? #LetMeKnow— David Haye (@mrdavidhaye) June 14, 2015
The boxer also shared his story on Instagram, saying, "I'm sitting relaxed on my flight, engines firing when some dude started screaming. I was hoping he was screaming at a terrorist holding a box cutter, waiting for me to dish out a Hayemaker, but all it was was a tiny little mouse."
Haye is a championship boxer and one of the toughest fighters in the sport. He claims that initially when the man screamed, he believed the plane may have been under attack from terrorists and that he was ready to take them down himself.
After the cancellation due to a mouse, there is no doubt that Haye was upset about missing his flight, but his anger toward the man who screamed was even more blatant.
