Those in the Brooklyn area with nothing to do on New Year's Eve might want to consider what certainly seems like a delicious good time to be had at a restaurant where Bill Murray's son is the chef.
PaperMag.com's Julie Besonen reports on New Year's Eve festivities that will go down at River Styx, a restaurant located at 21 Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn.
Besonen spoke with co-owner Dennis Spina (34) and the 32-year-old Homer Murray, who happens to be the son of actor and worldwide partygoer Bill Murray.
From the brief description, the party is right up our alley, complete with libations and cheap but wholly delicious fare.
Besonen writes, "Winter melon punch will be complimentary. Oysters doused with Champagne are $4 a slurp. Everything is à la carte, from $8 nachos to roasted goose and lentils for four ($70). Music and drinking will not end at midnight."
The restaurant's website doesn't have any further details, but the sound of nachos and inexpensive oysters is enough of an information appetizer to have our mouths watering.
The two expounded on the restaurant that now sits at the location of the former 21 Club bar, explaining what makes their nachos, of which Spina states sells by the hundreds on weekends, so special: "We make them with fresh chips, cheese sauce with pickled jalapeno juice, chicken breast braised with beer and chiles, crema with Japanese mayonnaise, chives, fresh radishes and cilantro."
As for the chef, Murray explains that his previous culinary escapades was making shrimp cocktails for his famous family.
Murray's first foray was at, "Murray Bros. Caddyshack at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida and Myrtle Beach, making shrimp cocktail."
Murray continues, "My dad is one of nine kids and it's owned by five uncles, inspired by their mutual love of golf. When I was in art school it was my summer job, but I didn't know what my career was going to be back then."
As for whether his father has been by the restaurant, Murray merely states, "He's been in."
