Clint Eastwood will set aside time to direct a miracle.

Entertainment Weekly’s Will Robinson reports the director who helmed such recent movies as “American Sniper” and “Jersey Boys” will take on a project that is near and dear to the airline industry.

The movie will be based on the life of Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, more specifically the pilot’s autobiography “Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters."

At the heart of the film is the Jan. 15, 2009, incident that saw US Airways Flight 1549 make an emergency water landing moments after the plane departed and subsequently struck a flock of birds.

The harrowing incident was captured by myriad media outlets and later dubbed the “Miracle on the Hudson.”

In Jan. of 2014, Sullenberger was on “CBS This Morning” with first officer Jeff Skiles to once again regale the nation with this remarkable story.

Sullenberger recounts in the video a conversation he had with his wife Lorrie, “I think our lives have changed forever. I just didn’t exactly know how or how much.”

The pilot continued, “In the first seconds I knew it was going to be unlike anything I’ve ever experienced; it was going to divide my life into before and after.”

Now that one astounding turn in his life has garnered a cinematic retelling that will have Eastwood in the director’s chair.

EW quotes Sullenberger who sounds absolutely optimistic about the movie that will reportedly go into production later this year: “I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall. The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team.”

With movies like “Million Dollar Baby,” “Flags of Our Fathers,” and the previously mentioned “American Sniper” under his belt, Eastwood brings a gravity and wisdom to a project that now exudes promising returns at the box office.

We now await various items like cast, title, and the date we should set aside to watch the future epic.
