After announcing the closure of the popular The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror to make way for a “Guardians of the Galaxy” attraction, Disney officials revealed the ride will be officially closed on Jan. 2, 2017.

According to the company’s official blog, Disney's California Adventure will celebrate the world-renowned attraction’s final days, starting with a focus on the ride during the Halloween Time festivities between Sept. 9 and Oct. 31.

During the Halloween Time celebration, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will be transformed into “Late Check-Out,” the first time the attraction has been done in complete darkness. Outside the ride, Hollywood Tower Hotel will host special performances by the Silver Lake Sisters, who performed many times over the years at the attraction.

For guests looking to remember the moment, Disney's California Adventure will be offering commemorative merchandise and special food and drink items for the celebration. Visitors will also have the chance to snap a photo in front of the Hollywood Tower Hotel marquee, using antique props to transport people back in time.

The attraction taking its place will be dubbed “Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!” and will feature Rocket the raccoon working with guests to break the other characters in the movie franchise out of The Collector's display cases.

The new “Guardians of the Galaxy” ride is scheduled to open in the summer of 2017, at around the same time the second installment of the movie series hits theaters worldwide.
