To celebrate the 88th birthday of Mickey Mouse, Disney is paying homage to the iconic character by sending him on a trip around the world to make surprise appearances for fans and friends.
Mickey's official birthday is Nov. 18-the day in 1928 he debuted in the animated short film "Steamboat Willie"-and his journey around the world leading up to his birthday celebration will be chronicled by Disney's Mickey Mouse Facebook page.
The full video highlighting Mickey's travels will debut on his Facebook page on his birthday.
To help Disney fans keep up with Mickey, the company has launched the Mickey Mouse Instagram account-@MickeyMouse-to capitalize on the popularity of Mickey's Facebook page, which has 13 million followers. Throughout Mickey's journey, he will be posting images from around the world.
In addition to seeing the world, Mickey will be celebrated at select locations in Disneyland, Walt Disney World Resorts and Disney Stores throughout the United States by handing out commemorative "Happy Birthday, Mickey!" buttons.
The Disneyland Park in Anaheim will host a parade birthday celebration, and the Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando is advertising a special dance party for Mickey's birthday featuring characters and performers.
