Alcohol is by far the most prevalent substance to make a cameo on Instagram: The top five cities to garner such a selfie are Fort Lauderdale (Florida), Harlingen (Texas), Miami Beach (Florida), Panama City (Florida) and Las Vegas (Nevada).

ProjectKnow also breaks down the "drink" of choice for various states around the nation. Those in Colorado prefer to tout marijuana while those in Virginia are all about their shots.

Not to be the pebble in the flip-flop, but the study features a wealth of spring break trivia and cautionary advice.

For example, the website explains the impetus behind the debauchery that descends upon picturesque places this time of year: "A college swim coach was looking for a warm place to help his team stay in shape for their upcoming season, and thus, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, became the first official destination for spring breakers in the U.S."

Keep in mind, that took place back in the 1930s. Fast forward nearly a century, and spring break is a collegiate rite of passage.

As for the sage wisdom, ProjectKnow wants you to party responsibly: "The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism indicates that more than half of all male college students and a third of females will binge drink at some point during their college career and more than 1,800 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol-related unintentional injuries."

Close the shutters before all those frat boys and sorority girls arrive.

Born on the rough streets of suburban West Covina, I learned a great many things, some of which has proved useful: knowing the tell-tale sounds of an ice cream truck and crafting a world-class burrito come to mind. You have seen my work on Bleacher Report and possibly my mug on CNN. Perhaps, if you are into archaic modes of entertainment, you have also heard me on the radio. Pop culture is my beat. If it has to do with the intersection of travel, entertainment and pop culture, I'm your guy.
