Tokyo is a bustling, vibrant city that is so much more alive than the snoring, long-haul travelers flying its way. It’s the type of place whose energy is nearly impossible to capture during the short span of, say, a video posted to Vimeo.
Travel + Leisure recently spotted a treasure in the form of a video by Christoph Gelep. The piece is intoxicating. With a few moments and one cut after another, it immerses you with the travel possibilities that lurk on the other side of the world.

Gelep notes on Vimeo, “This video was shot over a 5 day trip to Tokyo in January 2016.”

The filmmaker explains that, although the video seems to have been shot by a well-seasoned Japan expert, it was anything but: “It was my first time visiting Japan, a place I had always wanted to see. With a population of 35 million, Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world. Due to this, I soon realized how lively and energetic this city really is.
“I decided to take my camera and explore this fascinating city so rich in culture, tradition and innovation.”
Fortunately, for we travel enthusiasts, Gelep also tackled Dubai and its own frantic and alluring pace.

It takes weeks, even months, to properly walk and savor a city’s treasures. But, if you only have a few moments, Gelep’s work will provide plenty to whet your appetite.
