They come from all over to bask in the glow of Times Square, like an eclectic bunch of interesting and peculiar moths.
Below you will find a video (h/t Digg) that is little more than a snapshot of a tourist trap, something akin to walking around Los Angeles' Hollywood and Highland while actually interacting with the locals.
What happens is truly captivating:
The video comes from one Michael Tapp who states in the YouTube description, "Find out what New York City's Times Square is all about by talking to the characters that pass through it during the night."
What it's all about is a gathering what can be more circus than anything else, and it's glorious. We get a man dressed up as a baby, which mandated a baby mask; a man who just wants to get out and walk amid the lights, because feeding the pigeons is for the birds and so many more.
Many of us have walked the same exact city block, not exactly knowing what caused such an intrigue.
The man shelling out nudie bar cards states this is little more than, "a shopping mall with comic characters."
A man smoking a cigarette is dumbfounded at the tourist influx, proclaiming, "They got money and they don't know what to do with it, so they come here to find something to spend it on."
A less cynical thought might be from the city worker who offers, "Living in New York City is a fulfilling life, because there is never a dull moment."
Maybe we found our reason so many people meander about Times Square.
