Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in Malta this past week scouting a location for a new film that Angelina has supposedly written and getting ready to direct. They toured the area, stayed in Gozo and took copious notes. Obviously, it looks like a good time to brush up on Malta knowledge for your planned Brangelina film-stalking trip.

Location

Malta is a European Country in the Mediterranean Sea. It is an archipelago made up of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino. The weather is warm and pleasant. Even in the summer when it can get considerably hot, the sea breeze will keep the area cool.

Getting There

The Malta International Airport handles multiple flights a day from Air Malta, the national airline of Malta plus a few others. However, during the tourist season the airline count swells to 31. The airport is south-centrally located and a convenient trip to anywhere on the island.

Lodging

There are a lot of options for staying on the island. Of course all of the major chains have hotels on the island, but many of the local resorts like the Soreda Hotel offer great deals with half board, full board or all inclusive options.

Other unique lodging options include staying at a guest house, which is like a large bed and breakfast, or a farmhouse, which is more like renting a villa with many having rustic décor, pools and spectacular views. If you are really looking for something out of the ordinary, try the Xara Palace Relais & Châteaux, practically a castle with accommodations fit for a king

Food and Beverage

The food at the Xara Palace is equally as great with two locations to dine on property. Trattoria AD 1530 is a more casual outside dining experience in the square while de Mondion offers up great views with your fine dining experience. Elsewhere, Bouquet Garni offers a modern take on Mediterranean and French cuisine and the seafood is super fresh. Incognito Bar & Restaurant is going to be one of your less expensive nights out, and they do dancing late night, too.

Things to Do

If you are lucky enough to be there in February, the locals put on a heck of a Carnival celebration. Other times of the year, there are plenty of Art and Religious festivals and this year, the Isle of MTV music festival as well. All of the normal beach and water activities are available, but you should really dig little deeper here in Malta. The Archeology here is amazing with megalithic monuments, Bronze Age dolmens, Punic tombs, and remains of Roman Villas to discover. Malta is often referred to as Fortress Island due to the number of Medieval and British Era fortifications that are still present today. The Maritime Museum, the National War Museum and the Armory are a great place to start your military exploration.

I am sure that whatever movie Angelina Jolie is looking to film in Malta, she's going to have to look her best to compete with the beautiful scenery.
