Windows? We don't need no stinkin' windows.
The Daily Mail's Chris Kitching (h/t Fox News) reports on a concept private plane we can get behind, one that might be manufactured without windows adorning the fuselage. Now we understand if that sounds a bit grim and drab, but consider the possibilities of a cabin that really serves as a blank slate.
Here's what it might look like thanks to a YouTube video from Technicon France:
Some might want to see what the atmosphere outside the airplane looks like, essentially riding in style previously relegated to Wonder Woman. I for one would just use the space to run a Dr. Who marathon at 35,000 feet.
As Kitching writes, the innovative concept comes by way of, "Technicon Design's team in France for a National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) show."
Kitching spoke with Gareth Davies who serves as the studio's design director. Davies has this to say about the revolutionary idea:
"It has to be credible and relevant, yet provoke discussion. I challenged the team to break out of conventional thinking with regards to a business jet exterior and interior.
We quickly settled on the controversial yet interesting idea of removing the windows from the cabin and using existing or very near future technology to display the exterior environment on flexible screens, which cover the walls and ceiling of the cabin, via external cameras."
Davies' team certainly piqued our interest. Sadly, we will have to wait and see if this concept ever comes to planes for practical use. Until then, we are left to merely stare at the seat back in front of us, trying desperately to forget the idea of an airplane that offers a panoramic view of the world outside the cabin.
Truly, ignorance is bliss.
