Japanese Hamburger Eaters May Be Giving Tartar Sauce Too Much Credit

Japan, a country of so many amazing delicacies, decided the patty in a hamburger was simply superfluous.
Kotaku’s Brian Ashcraft reports on the latest craze to sweep the island nation. Apparently, it’s quite popular to eat sandwiches with nary a sight of meat, leaving the burger to look like some sad, depressing collection of hamburger accoutrement.
Ashcraft states that Lotteria, a fast-food joint, has unveiled its newest creation, which is, according to Ashcraft, “a shrimp-less burger.”
As you see below thanks to Twitter, it’s without shrimp, beef, pork or anything else that once walked or swam this great planet.
Instead you get two pieces of bread, lettuce, tartar sauce and general looks of amazement from food workers who we have to think are astounded this stuff sells.

Normally a burger like this demands a moment with the restaurant’s manager.
Ashcraft states the jury is mixed as far as taste, but there is no denying this patty-less sandwich is a cash cow: “But some are impressed with Lotteria’s savvy, especially with that 210 yen—US$1.75 price tag. That’s kinda pricey for bread, tartar sauce, and a piece of lettuce, no? The whole thing is a clever stunt on Lotteria’s part.”
The reporter states many have taken to snapping off images of the peculiar food item, filling social media with the hamburger:

We imagine you can make your own similar hamburger stateside by entering any place that has a fish sandwich.
Just go inside, order the item and when you receive it throw the delicious patty portion away.
And now you have created an International delicacy in the form of this deconstructed hamburger. We just hope you have a rather overzealous fancy for tartar sauce.
