Travel opens our eyes to the world, allows us to see new things and embrace new experiences. Its hold, however, doesn’t dare let us go when we get home. Thankfully, those sights, sounds and moments live on vividly in our mind.

Kathie Lee Gifford, in offering a great many anecdotes from her past trips to Israel on “Today,” has reminded us of the ultimate power of travel.

While fondly looking back at various trips during holy week, Gifford drummed up a beauty of a memory that features beloved sports figure and husband Frank Gifford.

Today’s website has a beautiful account of the time Kathie Lee and Frank traveled to Israel and enjoyed the area in Caesarea, more specifically the stadium-like Hippodrome.

Here is what Gifford had to say about her husband, who passed away last year: “He jumped up here, went over to the edge and said, 'Good evening, ladies and gentleman, and welcome to Giants stadium. It's a roaring crowd tonight. The Hippodrome is full of people just anxious for a good fight!'”

The memory came from a trip four years prior, which came to Kathie Lee Gifford while she enjoyed a recent romp through the country, procuring what seems like a veritable treasure trove for Hoda Kotb to try:

Gifford continued on thoughts of her husband, via Today, “I have a million memories of being here with him. They're all good.”

As noted in the above Facebook video, Gifford is offering a wealth of video this week from her most recent Israel trip.

This one found its way onto YouTube and features Masada, Ein Gedi and the Qumran Caves:

This particular trip was an emotional one for Gifford who had the opportunity to remember her husband and pay tribute to her religious beliefs.

But those of us far removed from Gifford’s circle can appreciate the underlying theme to this story: Travel can be that momentous endeavor that is both cathartic as well as an opportunity for reflection.
