UPDATE: So it turns out this entire thing was either a hoax or a misunderstanding in translation. Either way, consider us devastated.
Those who haven't yet been inoculated from the ravages of an overdose of cute may want to avert the eyes, because this story is adorable.
Digg spotted the following YouTube video from Dutch airline KLM, featuring quite possibly the world's most precious lost and found officer:
The video description offers, "KLM's dedicated Lost & Found team at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is on a mission to reunite lost items as soon as possible with their legitimate owner. From a teddy bear found by the cabin crew to a laptop left in the lounge. Locating the owners can sometimes be a challenge, so special forces have been hired…"
While there is a very real danger of going into a coma from an overload of delight, we simply have to relay the dog's name is the very apt Sherlock, via Fox News. Now if ever there was a need for an even smaller dog named Watson, this would be it.
KLM explains in a release that lost items are a very real problem for passengers, which is obviously an issue for travelers in general.
To get devices and items back to owners, KLM is harnessing social media and the like to scour airports for the rightful recipients. The last and most adorable step has been to employ canine services. The release states on the overall initiative, "Despite the challenge of locating the owner, first results show that over 80 percent of the found items can now be reunited with their owners."
In Sherlock's case, finding the owner yields some of the biggest smiles we have seen at airports.
Imagine the fear of losing something valuable wash away as a small dog comes up like a four-legged hero of triumph. That's it, folks. Our day has been made, so we are going back to bed.
