“What’s the worst time to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday” seems to be a question that answers itself. Sadly, for those of us with plans to join family for a few platefuls of turkey and a day of sleeping it off, there’s really no better way to get there from here than via the airport. Which puts us in the company of a few million fellow holiday flyers.
How many are we talking about? According to AAA estimates, we’re talking 43.4 million people traveling for Thanksgiving this year. And what happens when 43.4 million people all schedule flights for the same three days?
Pandemonium, that’s what.
The infographic below, from innovative new app Freebird, helps outline the extent of the pandemonium. The numbers present a pretty stark picture, from the merely eye-opening (250,000 people experience a flight cancellation) to the extremely helpful (there’s a 50 percent higher chance of a cancellation between 6-7 a.m.). Check it out, then enter the airport fray this Thanksgiving holiday armed with knowledge that just might save your trip.
