We have to deal with them all over the world, even on vacation.
They are the adorable faces that stare at us from one booth over during our meal; or the kids who run around the restaurant screaming well into the dessert course. They are rude kids, and one restaurateur is trying to solve the problem.
If you’re ever in Padua and boast some well-mannered children, then you may want to save some money by visiting Storie Di Cibo E Di Vino restaurant. That would be Antonio Ferrari’s spot, which is where he imposes a good-kid discount on the bill—something that would be music to any traveling parents’ ears.
Corriere della Sera (h/t The Guardian) reports Ferrari recently noticed a family party featuring five kids that was an actual treat to serve.
Five kids at one meal is normally a recipe for a headache for the staff. In this case, the exchange was a delight for employees. Ferrari was so pleased that he instituted something of a nice-kid discount of five percent, an act that didn’t go unnoticed. The family ended up leaving a nice tip for the gesture.

Since that epiphany, Ferrari has had the pleasure of extending the discount to two other families.
Now, it doesn’t seem like this is an official part of the dining experience. Ferrari isn’t going to monitor the area and judge kids’ behavior, but it’s certainly worth noting if you happen into the restaurant.
As their website states, Ferrari was born and raised in Padua, and the love for food has been a family affair.
The website goes on, “Ours is the story of an Italian family for generations dealing with food and quality wine passion and pride. We grew up in a food shop, the one in Veneto call ‘el casoin.’ Mom and Dad have inherited this passion from grandparents. We have only interpreted and given a new shape to the same passion.”
This upbringing, it would seem, also garnered an affinity for the polite and civilized, of all ages.
