Sift through the nonsense and shouting and we may just find an innovative solution for reclining seat nightmares.
Business Insider's Matthew Debord reports on one possibility looming out on the innovative landscape that may quell some of the space issues we have all heard about recently.
Debord takes a close look at airplane seats, designed by Singapore's AirGo Design, that reportedly allow passengers to recline without limiting the space of the person directly behind them.
Debord includes a couple of graphical mockups that illustrate just how reclining in an AirGo seat might not actually impede on personal space, something of a premium in the air at the moment.
Modern Whole tweeted out these possibilities that unfortunately don't include computer-generated happiness for the faux travelers:
It seems like whining about reclining seats is the newest American fad, usurping previously vaunted wastes of time like Gangnam Style dancing and Harlem Shake buffoonery. Indeed, it seems like every single flight is destined to be diverted when one passenger demands all chairs remain in their upright position.
OK, to be fair we have had just three such instances in two weeks, but it's time to think outside the cabin and find a resolution that isn't merely banning Knee Defender devices.
Singapore Business Review caught up with cofounder Alireza Yaghoubi in July who expounded on how airlines have ditched innovation in the cheap seats for those of first class:
"To keep up with the expenses, the airlines in turn had to limit the quality of air travel for the 99% of passengers. In a way, what we have today is a lot like the telecom industry before the arrival of the new generation of smart phones, especially Apple's iPhone."
AirGo reportedly use 3D scanning data to fashion seats that are ergonomically in tune with the human body, giving passengers a pleasant and relaxing trip-at least that's the hope.
We say there is a solution to be had for increasingly cramped quarters and stuffed cabins. Before frustration once again boils over, it's time to rethink the seats that remain relatively static in the creativity department.
Whether AirGo seats are the solution is left to time to answer. We are just thankful the debate can now begin.
