On Wednesday, the much-anticipated “Skull Island: Reign of Kong” attraction at Universal's Islands of Adventure officially opened to the public.

The Universal Orlando Resort is bringing the legacy of King Kong to a new generation of fans through the new attraction. Guests are transported by a specially designed vehicle that transports them into a world full of temple ruins and hostile natives.

The “Skull Island: Reign of Kong” expedition vehicle operates on a trackless ride system that takes them through the ride, eventually coming face-to-face with a three-story-high King Kong as he battles large beasts to save the passengers.

The opening of the King Kong ride wasn’t the only reason to celebrate for Universal Orlando, as the company also opened its fifth on-site hotel, the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, on Thursday. The hotel has 1,000 rooms designed to feel like a Caribbean resort.

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort also features two sand beaches, a waterfall and a lagoon, all of which have water taxi access to Universal Orlando’s theme parks and CityWalk.
