SXSW is Getting an Actual Bates Motel

We aren’t quite sure why you would want to, but you can soon stay at the Bates Motel. (Psychological trips are extra).

Mashable’s Sandra Gonzalez reports on a SXSW sweepstakes you can enter to win a stay at an A&E-modeled Bates Motel. It’s like a pop-up resort with as many thrills as you can shake a bunch of mommy issues at.

Gonzalez writes, “During the festival in Austin this month, A&E will open the doors to a replica of the iconic hotel that will feature props and decor from the show, a Bates-themed GIF booth and a few other surprises.”

Now those of you not familiar, you are missing out on some fantastic (Read: peculiar) television. Here is a look at the upcoming season:

While we assume you are packing your bags already, we would suggest heading to A&E’s official sweepstakes page for more info.

It’s there that you can share your love for the show on Facebook, hopefully garnering likes, and in turn extra entries, for the Austin-based sweepstakes.

Gonzalez spoke with Elizabeth Luciano who serves as the vice president of marketing for the network.

Luciano offered thoughts on the motel that will be a fully-functioning fan oasis for a few lucky fans later this month: “We decided to build [rather than take over an existing space] in order to ensure that the Motel was as true to the 'real' Bates Motel as possible.”

In the end, Bates Motel’s Austin stop was about fan fervor. The VP continues, “We looked at several major cities to place the Bates Motel, but we kept coming back to SXSW because we know that attendees at SXSW are big Bates fans.”

According to the report, those who meander past the new motel will be able to enter to win as well, so make sure to stop by for the wildest and, well, creepiest hotel stay we have seen.
