The Sistine Chapel, a beloved and iconic tourist destination, was recently the site of an acoustic set from none other than U2's The Edge.
There is hardly a more remarkable venue. But the backdrop actually takes a bit of a backseat to the reason The Edge as well as doctors and dignitaries were in Vatican City.
Rolling Stone reports the various videos you have no doubt enjoyed already are thanks to the Cellular Horizons conference.
As its website explains, the conference brought together, "the world's leading Cell Therapy scientists, physicians, patients, ethicists and leaders of faith, government and philanthropy to discuss the latest cellular therapy breakthroughs and hope for the future."
The event, also attended by Vice President Joe Biden, afforded a select few an acoustic set from a renowned musician.
For The Edge, (born David Howell Evans) it was a moment to revel in the most picturesque and extraordinary of musical venues.
Here are some videos that offer but a glimpse of the set:
The conference was particularly special to the U2 guitarist. As Rolling Stone reminds, The Edge not only lost his father to cancer but also endured his own daughter's fight with leukemia.
As noted by travel guides, the Sistine Chapel remains the final stop for Vatican tours, culminating what has to be decades of curiosity for some tourists.
On Friday, it was the scene of something truly special as The Edge offered modern beauty to a timeless classic.
