Virgin America posted a video that will generally haunt your dreams for the foreseeable future.
The video (h/t Digg) is essentially what you would experience on a really boring cross-country jaunt. Now if you want to enjoy five hours crammed onto a nameless flight, here you go:
The video's description helps you out if you are short on time: "Take a look inside BLAH Airlines Flight 101 from Newark to San Francisco. Witness the harsh reality of nearly six hours of flying at its worst, from takeoff to landing. Unfortunately, this is a familiar experience for far too many travelers."
Luckily, I spent over five hours scouring the video for you. Just kidding, that sounds horrible, because nobody actually wants to experience five-plus hours aboard an airline. And that is at the heart of the peculiar marketing ploy, getting people to stop by and ponder if there is another way.
Now that is not to say Virgin America's flights are any more radical than other airlines, but it's still a nifty idea, creating an unforgettable ad from a simple, albeit lengthy premise.
The video starts with the worst possible situation: a baby nearby is crying, a loud cackle comes over the loud speaker and the plane is seventh in line to take off. Oh, we are also sitting in the middle seat of a drab cabin and the constant flashes of a lifeless dummy means we aren't sleeping well tonight.
And that's the extent with which I can help. Life is far too precious to watch a bunch of literal dummies fly a fictional route across the country. I did click around a bit, which resulted in listening to an incredibly boring fake film, a truly odd experience with the back of a seat and a display of awful dummy eating taking place next to us.
This was truly the worst flight ever, but that is sort of the point.
