WATCH: Geeky Tour Shows The World's Most Geographically Intriguing Places

Calling all cartographers and geography lovers. The following video will have you puffing on your nerd spray from all the wonderfully insightful information and details on intriguing world boundaries.

Now before the rest of you leave the room, we really must say that this video, posted to YouTube by Wendover Productions (h/t Digg) illustrates how wonderfully diverse national borders are across the globe.

For example, you are instantly reminded that Britain does indeed share a border with Spain and that Spain dips its toes ever so comfortably into the African continent.

The most interesting part of the video comes when it begins to discuss various domestic flights, which are extremely long if you don’t concern yourself with things like contiguous land.

As the video notes, you can leave France—in this case Cayenne in French Guiana—and land in Paris nine hours later.

It also boasts a longer flight, which might leave France’s capital and make its way to Réunion Island, also France—roughly 11 hours away.

We often gloss over little factoids like this when we travel by air. But it’s fascinating to sit back and ponder on the political and geographic idiosyncrasies that make up so many of our journeys.
