You Just Missed Your Chance to Own a Disney World Monorail Car

Fans of Walt Disney World love to tout the products and souvenirs they bought while at the legendary amusement park, but one eBay user took it to the extreme when he purchased one of the original Monorail cab cars.

According to Matt Mauney of the Orlando Sentinel, a listing appeared on eBay earlier this month for a 1971 Mark IV Red Monorail cab car, the original make and model of the first Monorail that took visitors around Disney World in the 1970s and 80s.

The auction has closed, according to, and the sale price was listed at $99,000.

In a separate report from Emanuella Grinberg and Jareen Imam of, the cab car was being sold by Christopher Nowak and his wife, who are Disney fanatics. The couple hoped to transform the monorail cab into an actual street-legal vehicle, but needed the money and decided to sell it instead.

When asked about auctioning off something this unique, Nowak told, “I'm sure I'd have salty taste in my mouth if it gets sold, but we'll see what happens. If this thing gets sold I know that in 20 years I'll look back and think that of all the things I got rid of, this is the coolest.”

The monorail has plenty of history as well. Walt Disney World commissioned the cars in 1969 and they went into service in 1971 with the opening of the park. There were 10 original trains that cost $6 million each.

The first monorail trains stayed in action until they were decommissioned in favor of newer models in 1989.

While it’s hard to imagine spending almost $100,000 on a vehicle like this, for fans of Walt Disney World, this is one of the Holy Grails from the original park.
