Awards season is upon us and the 2017 Travvy Awards are fast-approaching. This relatively new celebration of the travel industry is quickly becoming one of the most celebrated events and the 2017 awards will be no different.

New York’s Gotham Hall will once again set the stage for the Travvy Awards where the coveted gold statuettes will be handed out to a crowd of industry greats on Jan. 25, 2017.

Looking forward to the 2017 Travvy Awards, we are remembering some of the winners that have graced the stage in previous years. Here is a look back at the 2016 winners in the category of Best Water Park winners.

WINNER: XCaret Park

Xcaret is Mexico’s premier ecoarchaeological water park, providing guests with an experience that seamlessly blends history, culture and adventure in the jungle of Riviera Maya. Unlike the traditional water park that features slides and wave pools, Xcaret is located on an ecological preserve on the Caribbean Sea, allowing guests to experience snorkeling tours, underground rivers and dolphin swims in a natural setting. Adding to this unique water park experience is the plethora of cultural experiences guests can enjoy. The story of Mexico unfolds in the Hacienda Henequenera, which leads to the Museum of Mexican Folk Art, home to the Fiesta Charra and the Tlachco Theater. From there are caves, archaeological sites, the Paradise River, a Mayan Village and more. Nature lovers can experience habitats such as Jaguar Island or the Butterfly Pavilion. And visitors have a variety of culinary delights to choose from – there’s even a wine cellar for adults. It’s rare to find such an immersive Mexican experience all located in one place.

RUNNER-UP: Blue Diamond Resorts

Blue Diamond Resorts are deserving of family-friendly accolades. With the largest water park in the Caribbean, numerous age-appropriate activities for children of every age and an innovative adventure program, the resorts keeps both kids and adults entertained and engaged every step of the way. Its numerous family-friendly properties are found in exotic locations around the Caribbean, including Cuba, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, providing the perfect backdrop for a memorable vacation.
