Note to kids and wives everywhere: I am pretty sure Dad doesn’t want a tie this year for father’s day. This is the year that you break away from the ordinary and come up with something new to please pop on his special day. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
The Local Brewery, Winery or Distillery
If your dad likes to occasionally imbibe in an alcoholic beverage, there is nothing cooler that taking a tour of your local brewery. Most offer tours and free samples as well as a chance for you to buy him some swag. Let’s be honest, a shirt with the local brew on is going to be worn much more often than the one with “World’s Greatest Dad” will. Wineries can offer up discounts when purchasing on site and some distilleries even have classes for how to create cocktails with their spirits. All of which add up to “Best. Father’s Day. Ever.”
If your dad is a guy who likes to fire up the Big Green Egg and get to work, then maybe getting a few brush-up classes or professional instruction could be a potential gift idea. Every May, July, and September the North Carolina Barbeque Society puts on a two-day intensive Barbeque Boot Camp and Certified BBQ Judge Class which actually results in judging certification. On the west coast the North West BBQ and Grilling School offers Pig Out, Private Surf and Turf, Advanced BBQ and Gourmet Burger classes in addition to all of their regular classes.
Not Striking Out
A lot of dads are big fans of sports and if you are lucky enough to have one that really is a fan of baseball, you can cash in on his favorite pastime. Many professional baseball venues offer personalized tours of their facilities and some even have behind the scenes tours of the parts of the stadium that the general public doesn’t normally get to see. If you really want to hit it out of the park, take your dad to historic Fenway Park or Wrigley Field not just for a tour but for a game as well.
Tank Town USA

My favorite suggestion when someone says that they need an idea for a birthday or father’s day gift is to go big. Like driving a tank big! How about running over a car with a tank big? You can do it all at Tank Town USA in Morganton, Georgia. Located just about an hour and a half north of Atlanta, Georgia, Tank Town is just a quick drive up the highway to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
When you are done rolling over cars and expressing all iterations of the word “awesome,” head over to Blue Ridge, Georgia for lunch and a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.
There are four great suggestions for what to do with dad this Father’s Day. Just remember, even if you can’t get together with your dad this weekend, any day can be Father’s Day so get out there and have some fun with the old man. Where are you taking dad this year?
