Company Protects, Evacuates Travelers from High-Risk Situations

There are few companies that have “Will evacuate from war zone” under their job description.
There are even fewer that offer both evacuation services and travel insurance in a nice, neat little package.
But one company, Redpoint Resolutions, does it all.
Redpoint Resolutions, co-founded in Silicon Valley in 2011 by former Army Ranger Tom Bochnowski, is made up of a team of former Navy SEALs and Army Rangers, Stanford-affiliated physicians, paramedics, nurses, former intelligence officers and actuaries, calling itself the travel industry’s “first-ever comprehensive protection plan.”
Since its founding, it has gained popularity among commercial enterprises, corporations with duty-of-care responsibilities and adventure travelers, now covering more than 9 million people worldwide. Not only does it offer rescue services via helicopter, bush plane and heavy-duty ground and marine vehicles, but it will also transport you to the hospital of your choosing…from anywhere in the world. It has evacuated media members from war zones in the Middle East, as well as, oh, rescuing Nepal earthquake survivors from Mount Everest. It covers anything from an armed conflict to a natural disaster to a terrorist attack to a political uprising (in fact, it details these particular scenarios in its list of services). This is in addition to providing on-site and telephonic medical support and consultation, while offering travel medical insurance.

Bochnowski himself was an Army Ranger for several years before starting a security consulting firm with other military veterans that included a former Navy SEAL and an insurance actuary. Naturally, the next step was providing a comprehensive evacuation and travel insurance company, which now includes the Ripcord Travel Protection program for consumers.
“What we saw was there was an untapped opportunity,” Bochnowski said. “Increasingly, we thought there was this growing awareness that when you travel, bad things can happen, and you want immediate access to medical and security professionals that can move you from (Point) A to (Point) B in real time.
“We’ve got a lot of adventure travelers as Ripcord clients, as you could probably imagine.”
Bochnowski said it was important to cover just about everything so that travelers didn’t have to read the fine print and could relax, knowing that they’re protected. Redpoint Resolutions offers document/passport replacement services, translation services (on-site and telephonic) and detailed city and country reports that cover anything from health issues and visa requirements to transportation and crime. It even has a team of “Fixers” that have worldwide cultural and geographic knowledge.
Redpoint Resolutions also claims to be the only travel insurance program that doesn’t require the attending physician to give the go-ahead for evacuation as medical necessity, and it has done away with the traditional reimbursement model, a model that requires insured clients to fill out a reimbursement form and wait before receiving the money needed to pay for medical treatment.
When asked if there was anywhere it would be difficult for Redpoint Resolutions to provide evacuation services from, Bochnowski said “the middle of the Pacific Ocean.”
“Probably the only group that could get to them (there) is the U.S. Navy,” he said.
Last but least, another reason Redpoint Resolutions has attracted adventure travelers is because its travel protection plan is relatively affordable. For example, if a traveler just wants global evacuation and transportation services, there’s a $100 weekly plan, and a $300 annual plan. Bochnowski also said Ripcord Travel Protection has competitive prices for travel insurance, compared to traditional and well known travel insurance programs.
“The response to Ripcord has exceeded our expectations,” Bochnowski said. “It’s been picked up by the adventure travel community with welcome arms.”
Redpoint Resolutions is currently the official evacuation and rescue provider for the Adventure Travel Trade Association, and it’s been recommended by The Hunting Report.
