Are you filled with dread every time you check a bag? Wondering if you are going to be waiting at the baggage carousel of your final destination with no bag circling? BuzzFeed was thinking of you, then, when it put together its simple tips to prevent losing your luggage.

While most of the time, it’s the airline’s fault that your bag is in Los Angeles while you are in Paris, there are a few things you can do to prevent people from misidentifying your bags as theirs and to not leave bag tracking to the airlines.

First tip: Purchase luggage that doesn’t blend in.

“Sure, black luggage is chic or whatever. But when it looks the same as every other piece it will be a pain in the ass to find at the carousel. Opt for something more brightly colored, instead. Or something that’s totally customized,” writes Jessica Probes.

Second tip: Get a Tile.

The Tile works with your smartphone and Bluetooth to keep track of your bag. Just pop one into your bag and download the app and you’re ready to go. It’s an inexpensive way to make sure that your stuff stays with you.

Another way to keep your bags from taking a detour: remove those old airline tags.

“Older tags might be confused for your current destination. Make sure the newest tag is the only one on the bag. And always double check the airport code that’s on the new tag to make sure it’s correct,” writes Probes.
