How to Ensure Your Trip Is Protected

Protecting your trip investment is always a good idea but not all travel insurance is the same, according to a recent report on CBS Boston.
“There is a lot that can go wrong when planning a vacation. That is why many online booking sites offer travel insurance to protect your investment. But if you are not careful, you could end up spending money on something that isn’t much help,” writes Kate Merrill.
John Moorman shared his experience with Travelocity in which he purchased travel insurance on the site when buying airline tickets but found out later that the policy only covered medical issues.
“I was an attorney; this is what I do. I read the fine print. The way their website is set up, it’s very deceptive,” Moorman said regarding Travelocity.
Merrill noted that there were many similar complaints about Travelocity.
Airfarewatchdog.com founder George Hobica told Merrill that “there are almost always loopholes in travel insurance and that these policies are money makers for airlines and travel companies.”
Hobica recommends purchasing insurance from a third party so that you know what you are getting.
“There is insurance called ‘cancel for any reason insurance,'” he tells Merrill. “It is more expensive and it has some loopholes of its own, but it will usually cover you for any reason.”
