How to Score the Best Hotel Room

Not a world-class jetsetter but want to have the perks of one?
There are some tips and tricks to make this dream a reality — or so says Refinery 29 which offers up eight pro tips for scoring the best hotel rooms.
Number one: choose a new property.
“When guests book at new properties that want to grow a dedicated fan base, those hotels may be more willing to offer upgrades to get people talking about their property” — not to mention repeat business,” says Travelzoo senior editor Gabe Saglie.
The second tip — one we at TravelPulse highly recommend — use a travel professional.
Joost Schreve, former VP of mobile for TripAdvisor and CEO of travel-planning service KimKim, tells Refinery 29 that it’s a good idea to hire a “well-connected, local travel agent based in the destination you’re traveling to. They usually have good relationships with the best hotels and will make sure that the hotel gives you the best room possible — and even upgrade you, in some cases.”
Another expert recommendation: get on the phone.
“It is always a great idea to call the reservation department instead on booking online,” says Maegan Storey, marketing manager at Chatham Bars Inn in Cape Cod, MA.
You can usually get the same rate as online — or even a better one — and you can speak to someone who is actually at the property who will know where the best room is.
