Foodie festivals continue to spice up Mexico's culinary swagger, with the newest recipe for tasteful fun set to roll out this summer in Riviera Maya. Slated for June 2-5, the inaugural Mayakoba Masters of Food, Wine & Golf will shine the spotlight on culinary stars as they toast the best of cuisine, sport and spirits.

To spin the traditional food and wine festival format, the resort will feature a two-day golf tournament at Mayakoba's award-winning El Camaleon Golf Club.

"Foodies, oenophiles and golf enthusiasts alike will appreciate the specially-curated events that highlight the culinary and cultural bounty of Mexico, but also bring an international flair to the Riviera Maya," said Carl Emberson, VP of operations and marketing for Mayakoba. "It's a unique way for our guests to experience the destination through food and wine, and we hope this is the first of many more events to come."

Emberson noted that the festival presents "the ultimate way" for your clients to experience Mayakoba Resort. "From golf, to fine food, drink and relaxation, all the charms of Mayakoba will be on offer as part of the experience package," he said. "It is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet some of the best chefs from around the world."

Among the highlights of the four-day Mayakoba Masters of Food, Wine & Golf festival will be:

• Signature dinner with world-renowned Chef Richard Sandoval at El Puerto Restaurant.

• Lunch with Dallas' Andrew Ormsby paired with wines from celebrated Mexican winery Casa Madero.

• Tastings with Monte Xanic Winery Founder Hans Backoff.

• Mayakoba Masters Supper Party hosted by Veuve Clicquot with bites from NYC's Felipe Donnelly (Comodo).

• Cooking classes at the El Pueblito Cooking School.

• After parties, farmer's markets and spa treatments (for non-golfers).

• Grand Tasting at El Pueblito.

• Closing Dinner & Party at Banyan Tree Mayakoba's Sands Beach Club.

"We are pleased to partner with The Gourmet Awards for the closing party, which will surely be a night full of color and fine food," said Emberson. "Guests can mingle with our celebrity chefs, and the incredible Rosewood culinary team will prepare an interactive meal live under the stars. Mexico's best artisanal beers, tequila, mezcal, raicilla and wines will be flowing and it will surely be a magical way to close the festival."

Three-night American Express Mayakoba Masters of Food, Wine & Golf packages are priced from $1,199 at Fairmont Mayakoba, from $1,399 at Banyan Tree and from $1,599 at Rosewood. All packages include airport transfers, daily breakfast, golf clinic by Instructor Jim McLean, participation in The Mayakoba Golf Cup, two 60-minute massages for non-golfers, all food and beverages at the Masters of Food & Wine events, wine tastings, cooking classes and Sunday Farewell Brunch.

Refreshed Culinary Focus

The Mayakoba Masters of Food, Wine & Golf follows several resort-wide food and beverage enhancements. Most recently, El Pueblito Cooking School has debuted to provide guests hands-on classes in an interactive, gourmet teaching kitchen. The school will also offer private classes for families, individuals and corporate groups.

"El Pueblito Cooking School will be an interactive new way for our guests to engage with top chefs from around the world, as well as the amazing culinary team across Mayakoba's hotels," said Emberson. "Guests will watch and actively participate with the Chef to prepare a range of traditional and contemporary Mexican, and International dishes, and then enjoy tasting the dishes with wine pairings. We are working on an exciting lineup of events for this summer, and will also have the School available for private events and corporate groups."

At Banyan Tree Mayakoba, HAAB has hit the scene as an immersive outdoor dining experience that spotlights ancient Mayan customs, culture and cuisine. Rosewood Mayakoba has chimed in with al fresco La Ceiba Garden & Kitchen where guests can sink their teeth into tastings, cooking demonstrations and plucking produce to create dishes infused with Mexican flair.
