National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day: 3 Places to Celebrate

No real chocolate chip cookie lover can resist the gooey taste of a fresh chocolate chip cookie. And thankfully today you won’t have to since it is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!

So if you’re the ultimate cookie baker, it’s time to whip up your best batch, or better yet follow your nose to these following destinations to celebrate the classic American treat.

Whitman, MA

Do you want to take a huge bite of the cookie in the place where it was birthed?  First you must pay homage to the pioneer, Ruth Graves Whitfield, for accidently creating the dessert.

It was a typical day for Whitfield, who cooked meals and baked desserts for guests of the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts.  However, in the process of making her cookies she realized that she did not have enough of the chocolate she typically used in her desserts.  Instead, she improvised by incorporating chunks of a Nestle chocolate bar, which only softened when baked instead of melting.

And thus was born the delectable treat we celebrate today.

NYC: Levain Bakery

There’s no shortage of bakeries in New York City, but only a few are praised for having award-winning chocolate chip cookies.  Levain Bakery is one of the few and it has a beloved spot of chocolate chip cookie lovers because of its huge chocolate chip walnut cookie.

The bakery’s cookies are so big, some have called them the largest in Manhattan.  But don’t be intimidated by the cookie’s size, because inside of its crispy shell oozes with chewy, gooey chocolaty goodness.  With this in mind, you’ll want to get here early because Levain Bakery’s cookies are one of the fastest items on the menu to go.

DoubleTree by Hilton

In the spirit of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, Doubletree Hotel by Hilton is extending its hospitality program by giving away its chocolate chip and walnut cookies.  But there’s no need to pull out your credit card since you can take part in the delicious action with making a reservation.  Just step inside any one of its hotels and your sweet tooth will be generously satisfied.

However, DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton’s commitment to National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day doesn’t end inside of its hotels because it will be sharing its warm, delectable cookies with New York Penn Station and Chicago Union Station travelers as well. By giving Amtrak passengers two cookies each, it hopes that they will continue “the random act of kindness” by sharing one of their cookies with a loved one.
