'No Fun' Puerto Rico Tourist Gets Second Chance
After about fifth grade, very few of us ever get a do-over in life and almost none of us get to do-over a free vacation to Puerto Rico, but we’re not Kevin Blandford.
Back in the beginning of April we ran a story about a young man from Kentucky who, after being unable to bring his wife and newborn child along on a trip he'd won to Puerto Rico, posted photos of himself looking severely unhappy so his wife wouldn’t feel bad. The internet blew up and Kevin Blandford became a hero, a target of pity and a meme all in one moment.
Thanks to the folks at the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Kevin has had the chance to make everything right with his family by taking another trip to Puerto Rico and this time getting to bring his family along. It seems that Puerto Rico couldn’t stand for such misery in their picture-perfect island, so they brought him back.
When asked how he felt about the opportunity he said, “It was really surreal, both my wife and I were VERY excited!” Well, here is the best part. Kevin not only got to go back to San Juan, he also went back to the exact same places to take the exact same pictures, which of course, are now posted online as well with the title, “Won another trip to Puerto Rico, but this time with my wife. Had many seconds of fun.”
Kevin told TravelPulse that he wasn’t able to take along the same photographer, and that it was tough finding some of the locations from the first pics, “The image with the Sangria was tough to find. We had to get the GPS location from the previous picture and then use Google Maps to find it because we couldn't remember where it was. We got the same place though! Everything else was pretty easy to find. We walked for a long time in Old San Juan, it was hot and the baby was tough to push up and down all those hills in a stroller, but we made it! It was a lot of fun going to all the places again!”
Reddit also chimed in like the last time, with its normal amount of fans and trolls. At one point it was commented, “The next trip is with your mother in law and you are back to having no fun again!” When we asked him about it he responded, “I love that idea, unfortunately my mother-in-law is no longer with us. I'd love to bring the friend who helped come up with the idea and his wife to recreate a new set of photos!”
Well, I am sure that even with having to push that stroller up and down all the hills of Old San Juan, there were more than many seconds of fun on a free trip to Puerto Rico. Maybe when Kevin gets his friends along, they will be up to minutes of fun.
One thing is for sure: Puerto Rico saw a chance for some great PR and went for it.
