Mexico's Tianguis Turístico-the nation's top tourism industry trade and travel show-has circled back to its first love: Acapulco.

Slated for March 27-30 at the Expo Mundo Imperial, the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) has announced nearly 1,000 companies from 80 different countries are expected to participate in this 42nd edition-more even than last year's show in Guadalajara.

Since its last stop here in 2015, the port city has been gearing up to greet travel agents, wholesalers, suppliers and other tourism industry heavyweights with a whole new approach.

Tianguis Turístico continues to be the top platform to promote the country's diverse tourism offerings: One of 2017's top themes will be the wealth of its mega biodiversity.

Attendees to this year's event will also be privy to the MTB's new focus on leveraging trends that have come to light as a result of studies in key markets around the world. (This shows that Mexico's tourism industry has continued to grow thanks to the nation's genuine commitment to its visitors and its significant promotional efforts.)

Agents will note an emphasis on luxury, weddings and romance, diving, the aforementioned mega biodiversity and nature, culture and gastronomy. Additionally, high profile events, sports and adventure plus programs aimed at specific audience segments such as millennials, LGBTQ travelers and retirees are to be highlighted.

Partnerships with key destinations and global travel operators will be crucial to attracting an ever-expanding portfolio of options to travelers of all types, with connectivity and industry partnerships playing an important part in expanding Mexico's appeal to a broader audience in new markets around the world.

In this vein, this year's tradeshow will feature new and diverse companies in the tourism industry, innovative strategies and means of communication that will continue to consolidate its tourism activity as one of the main drivers behind the country's economic growth.

"Tianguis Turístico in Acapulco is the ideal stage to showcase the unique experiences that Mexico has to offer," stated Lourdes Berho, CEO of the Mexico Tourism Board.

"Tianguis is key to our continued success as it allows us to align and grow closer to our industry partners such as tour operators, airlines and hotels who support us as Mexico continues to be the preferred travel location for travelers around the world.".

On an interesting side note, the Tianguis will join other organizations, businesses, citizens and events for the first time ever in measuring and offsetting its greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. By seeking to neutralize its carbon output-efficiently managing its energy and other incentives-it is confirming its commitment to the environmental welfare of the country and the world at large.

Acapulco is a sunny destination that continues to be one of the most-visited tourism destinations in the world (i.e. around five million tourists visiting each year).

Though prone to less than favorable headlines in the past few years, it has been steadily burnishing the luster of its old Hollywood heydays and pouring millions into infrastructure upgrades. This includes a new tunnel connecting the main drag, known as the Costera, to the upscale Diamante area.

There are also exciting attractions like the world's largest over-water zip line along with wide-ranging plans for extensive property renovations, new resorts, shopping and even an eco-amusement park.

The authorities have also been hard at work improving the overall safety of the region, not only to protect these multi-million dollar investments but also to renew foreign visitor confidence in the area.

(It's important to note that foreigners have never, in fact, been touched by any of the tragic violence that has marred the area.)
