Sick of making mistakes on the road? Do you wish you had a quick checklist to run through to remind you what to do (and not do) when you are traveling? Huffington Post’s Amar Hussain, who has traveled to every continent, has put together just such a list.

Here are some of his best tips:

“Don’t take everything so seriously. Plans get ruined, things break and the unexpected happens. It’s all part of the journey,” he writes.

This is solid advice for any traveler embarking on a trip — be it a weekend getaway or a year-long adventure. Learning to be flexible is key.

Another awesome tip: put down your camera.

“Don’t spend your whole trip behind the lens. Take a few snaps and then enjoy it,” advises Hussain.

Another piece of valuable advice: Let your bank know you’re hitting the road. You should also have some hidden money.

“Always have a backup credit card and money that you keep separately from your wallet or purse,” he writes.

Hussain also advises travelers to be insured.

“Going anywhere without travel insurance is foolhardy. You always think it won’t be you but then it does happen,” he says.
