If getting ready to celebrate the National Parks Service’s centennial on Aug. 25, you might be wondering where to head. Orbitz has put together a list of some of the coolest campgrounds at national parks around the country to give you a primer on where to pitch your tent for the celebration.

“Certainly there are tons of great campsites within the National Park system, but for the following list we aimed to capture a variety…be it a scenic spot close to hikes and amenities, or a back country destination that’s as secluded as it is breathtaking,” writes Orbitz’s Laura Pearson.

At the top of the list, is one of the country’s most iconic parks and its most iconic campground: White Wolf Campground at Yosemite National Park.

“So desirable is camping in Yosemite that some campgrounds fill up within minutes, even seconds(!) of reservations opening to the public each month,” notes Pearson.

Luckily for visitors, this campground does not take reservations and is first-come, first-served. Better get up early!

Next on the list is another West Coast fave: Kalaloch Campground in Washington’s Olympic National Park.

“The only campground in the park to take reservations, Kalaloch is located on the southwest edge of Olympic National Park on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, making it a perfect spot for beachcombers as well as hikers wanting to explore the nearby Hoh Rain Forest,” says Pearson.

Moskey Basin in Isle Royale National Park is one of the more obscure parks on the list but definitely worth a visit.

“If solitude is truly what you seek—and not, say, quick access to a camp store for extra bug spray and snacks—head to this rugged island in Lake Superior for unparalleled access to nature and solitude,” says Pearson.
