Google's trend report revealed some insights into the world of travel during 2016 and, according to Travel + Leisure, DIY travel was a big win.
"If Google's 2016 trend report is any indication (and we think it is), travelers have taken a serious interest in do-it-yourself travel this year: flying solo, ride sharing, online booking, road ripping, and the great peer-to-peer behemoth, Airbnb," writes Melanie Lieberman.
One of the things that Google revealed is that bucket lists are still a thing.
"Even Travel + Leisure editors keep bucket lists. From watching the Northern Lights in Finnish Lapland to taking an incredible elephant yoga class (yes, that's a thing) there are some experiences that travelers have to do, at least once, in a lifetime," says Liberman.
The wellness retreat is not backing down. People are still searching for inner peace, zen - or just a digital detox, Google revealed.
Independent travel is another major trend.

"According to a recent study, nearly a quarter of travelers took a solo trip overseas last year. And so it's no surprise that independent, or solo travel, is gaining popularity," Lieberman reports.
The group tour is making a big comeback.
"No longer an automatic turn-off to discerning travelers, group tours have become increasingly sophisticated. Tour operators and guides know that offering exclusive access and insider-information can make all the difference between a snooze-worthy bus trip and an incredible, life-changing experience," notes Lieberman.
