As the weekend warrior knows, amazing travel doesn’t have to involve long, drawn-out journeys.

A new wave of travelers are blazing a trail of two- or three-day trips that are packed with adventure, writes Collette Stohler for the Huffington Post. But when they do take vacation, they are looking to take their activities to the next level.

“For weekend warriors and avid athletes, vacation can offer time to work on your sport, while also traveling the world,” Stohler writes.

For those looking to put together their own weekend adventure, Stohler has put together a list of ideas.

Number one: A cycling journey with Backroads.

“From biking the Balinese rice paddies to exploring the culture of Cuba, adventuring through the dazzling Dolomites to discovering the enchanting Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Backroads Travel has a location to match your every daring desire,” writes Stohler.

Families can get in on the action as well. Active broods can head to Costa Rica, suggests Stohler.

“From the world’s longest ocean view zip line to beach horseback rides, jungle mountain biking to ATV’ing, surfing to kayaking, Diamante Eco-Adventure Park has it all,” she writes.

Hikers have a whole world at their feet. Stohler suggests traveling with REI Adventures.

“With epic destinations like Zion National Park in Utah or Yosemite in California, REI Adventures organizes 5-star hiking trips to all of the nations top mountains,” she says.
