With concerns surrounding the Zika virus mounting in places like the American southeast, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and South America, many are looking for ways to get away.
Fortunately for them, TravelPulse founder Mark Murphy appeared on “Good Day Philadelphia” with a few of his favorite destinations that are friendly for visitors, yet unfriendly to the mosquitos that breed Zika.
But before he did, he was quick to reassure viewers that much of the concern surrounding Zika is partially overblown.
“The risk is very low,” Murphy said. Pointing out that when viewed based on population, the actual number of cases is minuscule. “There are 80 million people in Mexico — hundreds have Zika virus. I think it’s a little overblown, but it’s good to be cautious if you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant.”
That said, Murphy pointed out a few of his favorite spots where dry or colder weather creates an inhospitable environment for Zika-carrying mosquitos, from the deserts of Arizona to the rustic wilds of Alaska.
