As spring winds down, most of us are already planning our big trips for the coming summer. To help you get the most bang for your summer travel buck, TravelPulse Founder and CEO Mark Murphy appeared on “You And Me In The Morning” on Chicago’s WCIU to share his thoughts on what’s hot this season. Apart from tips and advice, Murphy also introduced a few of the places he’d already visited that are perfect for summer.
This Summer, Your Money Goes Farther
One thing that’s making this summer perfect for planning that dream vacation? Your money is going to go farther.
“Right now the dollar is still strong,” said Murphy. “It’s lost some of its strength, but it’s still strong against the Euro, and it’s incredibly strong against the Peso. If you want to get down to Mexico, it’s 17 to 1.”
And while Mexico might offer the best deal thanks to the exchange rate, Murphy also recommended the Caribbean, due to huge summer sales being offered to counter the drop in demand.
Nickelodeon’s New Punta Cana Resort
Murphy also pointed out one of the most exciting new developments in family travel, sure to be a top destination this summer, Nickelodeon Hotel & Resorts Punta Cana.
“This is great for families. You can get slimed if you want, when you get your massage. But you don’t have to,” Murphy joked.
And of course, Murphy offered indispensable advice on booking that dream vacation at Nickelodeon’s stunning resort: “Talk to a travel agent, because they’ll match the right room with the right family at the right price.”
Murphy also shared his excitement for Norwegian’s Breakaway, which operates sailings out of New York City. Murphy praised the ship's unique “waterfront” which faces bars and restaurants out toward the water, creating an experience akin to a boardwalk. He also praised the ship’s unique “Ice Bar,” joking with the show’s hosts, “I put a parka on and I was doing shots. It was great.”
Of note about Breakaway, Murphy pointed out, was a very affordable seven-day Bahamas and Florida sailing offering a special promotion wherein the third and fourth guests in a stateroom stay free.
Speaking of ships homeporting in New York City, Murphy offered an experiential take on the typical cruise vacation, with a stay at an Airbnb. By spending a few days pre-cruise at an Airbnb in the city, Murphy pointed out, you can get a truly authentic experience.
But of course you don’t get that authentic New York City experience in Times Square. “I’d stay up in Harlem,” said Murphy. “I’d get into a local community, and I’d learn what it’s like to live as a local. That’s why you travel.”
