If August 24th isn't already marked down on your calendar as one of the best days of the year, then we've got some really good news for you.
It is National Waffle Day: 24 hours fully dedicated to all things sweet and gooey. What is the best way to celebrate? By eating your weight in waffles, of course.
The following are some of the best waffle shops in the country.
The Waffle Window: Portland, Oregon
The Waffle Window serves Belgian-style waffles "with a Portland twist". Their waffle dough is leavened with yeast before being dusted by pearl sugar for a crispy exterior. As well as chocolate-dipped and fruit-topped varieties, expect some unique savory options like The Three B's (bacon, brie and basil).
Wafels & Dinges: New York City, New York
In addition to two cafes, Wafels & Dinges has food trucks located all over the New York City area. They serve up Belgian waffles as well as a unique hash brown waffle made with potato batter.
Toppings are mainly of the sweet variety, and you can also pick up a selection of pastries, ice cream and a "waffogato" coffee.
The Waffle Brothers: Denver, Colorado
An American-Australian duo is behind The Waffle Brothers. Both quit their previous jobs in order to pursue the perfect waffle recipe.
A little crazy? Perhaps, but the end result is a staggering menu of sweet, whole wheat or muffin waffles laden with toppings or made into mouth-watering savory sandwiches.
Waffles and Wedges: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
If the name didn't give it away, Waffles and Wedges exclusively sells waffles and potato wedges. Waffle toppings are all sweet (the savory options are reserved for topping the wedges), but come in a myriad of delicious combinations such as the Goonies (rocky road ice cream, Baby Ruth chunks and marshmallow) and the Cookie Monster (speculoos, edible cookie dough, Oreo cookies and whipped cream).

Mykonos Waffle, Austin, Texas
Based out of a converted VW camper van in downtown Austin, Mykonos Waffle is the ultimate sweet treat food truck. The waffles are large, spherical and then folded around an array of fruity or savory toppings (think fried chicken and coleslaw), so you can devour them much like a sandwich.
Sweet Iron, Seattle, Washington
This "waffle bar" serves Belgian-style street waffles in a variety of sizes and styles.
Enjoy a sugared mini waffle with a coffee or go all-out and sample one of their savory concoctions topped with the likes of prosciutto, creme fraiche and green onions (seasonal specials change regularly). You can even buy plain and chocolate-dipped waffles from Sweet Iron to eat at home.

TIABI Coffee and Waffle: Las Vegas, Nevada
The owners of TIABI (short for "To Inspire and Be Inspired") set out to create a unique coffee shop concept, and they certainly achieved it with their range of "wafflewichs."
Try the West Coast if you're a meat eater (chicken, house sauce, bacon, avocado, tomato and cheese) or the Vegan if you're not (avocado, spring mix, tomato, house sauce and vegan mozzarella).
Honorable mention: Waffle House
You can't make a list about waffles and not mention the nostalgia-inducing "open 24/7" chain affectionately known as WaHo. They only offer two types of waffle (plain or pecan) and only a scant number of toppings, but they are perfect on the side of your smothered, covered and diced hash browns.
Best eaten after midnight.
