WHY IT RATES: The Vacation Nights live events may have just started, but there is definitely a buzz surrounding them — the interface is flexible, knowledge is being gained and agents are closing sales directly related to customers watching the stream. -Michael Isenbek, TravelPulse Senior Editor

Travel Planners International, a top travel host agency, has implemented Vacation Nights — live events about cool travel companies. Held every six weeks via the Livestream app, travel experts, consumers and specialized travel agents are brought together for 45 minutes to one hour for a fun, informative and interactive Q&A experience. Those living in the Orlando area can join TPI in-person for the live events and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

Vacation Nights follows a “talk show” format where Jenn Lee, VP of Sales and Marketing, interacts with the guest travel expert — both engage the audience in conversation about a particular destination. 

The first Vacation Nights event was held on April 29, 2016 and featured Viking Cruises. Not only did David Holmwood, CTC-Director of Business Development, talk about what Viking Cruises has to offer in river cruising, but also, attendees were treated to beer from Germany.

The second Vacation Nights supplier was Celebrity Cruises with Jason Douglas-Harris, Market Sales Manager-East Coast. Guests learned about the cruise company while sipping premium wine. Consumers received an exclusive offer, which prompted many to book cruise vacations.

To market their business more effectively, travel agents must pay attention to how consumers get their information. Most view information on their laptops, cell phones and tablets because they’re busy; they may not have time to attend a cruise night. Vacation Nights fills the demand for technology-driven based marketing with the use of live streaming video which can be archived and viewed later, unlike webinars that may not be recorded.

Vacation Nights is “call-to-action” oriented. A unique URL is created for each travel agent and is shared promotion such as email marketing, flyers, social media content, etc. When consumers sign up for an event their names are attached to the respective travel agent.

Travel agent Debbie Woodman has already experienced success from Vacation Nights. “Debbie hosted a Vacation Nights and invited clients to watch the live presentation together. She closed sales that night!” said Jenn Lee, VP of Sales and Marketing.

Some travel agents may take a “wait and see” approach with Vacation Nights as they’re cautious about new technology. However, early users like Debbie may close sales immediately after an event.
