In a forward-thinking move, Nexion has unveiled NEXstart, a training program designed for those individuals interested in launching careers in the travel agent industry.
“As more travel agents reach retirement, it’s important to attract individuals who have fresh ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit in order to keep our industry strong and vibrant,” said Jackie Friedman CTC, CTIE, president of Nexion. “There are a lot of people who are interested in joining the travel industry, and we need to do our part to get them off to the right start.”
Most notably, the NEXstart program connects new agents with the services of Nexion business development leaders, who will mentor them during one-on-one sessions. Mentors will work with agents to help them produce customized business development plans and train them on Nexion’s myriad marketing initiatives and booking tools.
“Most of our one-on-one sessions for our NEXstart program will occur over the phone,” said Friedman. “However, during CoNexion and other Nexion events, participants will be encouraged to meet with our business development team in person.”
Another key component of the NEXstart program is that it enables agents to participate in Travel Leaders Group’s Travel Leaders of Tomorrow program, which is designed to attract and train new travel agent talent. It couples independent study with group study halls and activities, offering a combination of online and instructor-led courses.
“In order to ensure less attrition and a better caliber (of agent), we set the right expectations with participants so they know what they are committing to and are prepared to succeed,” said Friedman. “Travel Leaders of Tomorrow offers broad industry education, while NEXstart couples that with counseling, support and peer-to-peer mentorship so that the agent can zero in on their specific niche and better prepare themselves for a successful start and future.”
At the conclusion of the NEXstart program, agents will possess all the requisite skills necessary to take The Travel Institute’s Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) test.
Agents participating in the NEXStart program are of course also entitled to the myriad benefits of Nexion membership. “We offer a tremendous amount of training and business development programs, in addition to a library of Webinars on product, marketing and destination training available 24/7,” said Friedman. “We encourage all of our agents to be intentional about their approach, and we work alongside them to develop a business development plan focusing on their specific niche.”
