Vacation.com pulled their literal weight when it came to delivering goods for a great cause recently.
According to Travel Leaders Group, travel website Vacation.com added a whopping 330 pounds of food that helped raise an eventual 19,399 pounds of goods garnered on the annual Travel Leaders Group Day of Giving.
All of that food will make its way to the people who really need it. As the report states, the food drive that took place on July 7 will help the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), which is presumably enjoying the spoils of goodwill at the moment.
For the uninitiated, the AFAC is a community-based, non-profit organization that’s dedicated to getting sustenance to the people of Arlington who so desperately need it the most.
Vacation.com President John Lovell chimed in with what it means to gather hundreds of pounds of food that will eventually be put to wonderful use: “We are proud to join the many other travel agents and agencies participating in the annual Travel Leaders Group Day of Giving. Giving back to our local community has always been a part of who we are, and I would like to express my gratitude to all of the travel agents and staff members who supported this initiative.”
Lovell continued with a bit more on his website’s dedication to charitable acts as well as nod to the great work being done by the AFAC: “Arlington Food Assistance Center’s mission is to help vulnerable families. Part of our mission at Vacation.com is to give back — whether through our Family Bonds charitable program or through this effort for our local food shelf — and help those who need it most. We are honored to be a part of a worthwhile cause.”
The annual event was a particular rousing success in 2016. According to the press release, 2015’s iteration garnered a remarkable 8,470 pounds of food.
Fast forward to earlier this month and the organization was welcoming more than double that number. Here’s to hoping that 2017 puts on even more poundage for a drive that proves sometimes gaining weight can be a wonderful thing.
