10 Cheapest US Cities for Hotels this January

There are countless hotel deals to be had this January. But a handful of U.S. cities stand out based on data from the popular booking website Hotwire.
While the average nightly rate for a hotel in the U.S. this month is $139, nine worthwhile destinations boast average nightly rates at or under $128 per night, per Hotwire. What's more, six cities have average rates under $100.
Based on Hotwire's figures, here are the 10 cheapest U.S. cities for hotel stays this month.
Average Hotel Rate: $71 per night
Top Attractions: Harley-Davidson Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee RiverWalk
There's more to Milwaukee than its rich beer brewing tradition. But there's certainly enough tradition and history here to fill up your entire weekend itinerary.

Just an hour and a half south of Milwaukee along the shores of Lake Michigan is where you'll find the Windy City. The weather may be somewhat unfavorable this time of year, but there's plenty to do indoors.

Average Hotel Rate: $165 per night

Arguably the most surprising city on the list given its allure, the Big Apple is great anytime of year. There's no shortage of attractions and for many it's a bucket list destination. The only downside is the average NYC hotel room will cost you more than two times that of a room in Milwaukee, Minneapolis or Chicago this month.
