Los Cabos: this sun-kissed destination on Baja’s southern edge has always been synonymous with getaway. Naturally, there’s an excess of obligatory beach and poolside snaps—most likely with a fruity cocktail in the foreground—on Instagram and Pinterest feeds that effectually act as free promotions for the plethora of properties that pervade the sister cities and their tourist corridor.
This oversaturation, in turn, has made it hard to pick out a hotel that’s a cut above the rest. To address this issue, we put together a short list of Cabo properties, from idyllic boutique hotels to impressive resorts, that we not only found aesthetically pleasing but also trust to give us the best and most memorable vacation in the Baja Peninsula.
Hotel El Ganzo
Hidden away just outside of sleepy San Jose del Cabo in the East, this 70-room boutique hotel is much more than a place to lounge at the pool and sleep in. It’s also (and more importantly) a cultural art center that promotes and supports up-and-coming artists from all over the world.
The result is a stunner: a bright and airy, rustic yet modern aesthetic strewn with impressive art creations and awe-inspiring water views. Rooms and suites, of which there are six categories, are decked out with luxurious beds, standalone tubs and very artistic flourishes. The cherry on top is a rooftop with its swim-up bar, music venue, cabanas, and infinity edge pool with a glass pool. elganzo.com/ | +52 624 104 9000 | Doubles start at $172
Casa del Mar Golf Resort & Spa
It’s hard to decide what we love most about this little 50-suite resort. Sitting along the corridor with a long stretch of beach to its south and the rugged desert hills in the north, there is no doubt that one of Casa del Mar’s best features is its location.
However, the bougainvillea-trimmed pool area, the small and romantic courtyard, the exquisite spa, and the elegant suites that are named after famous haciendas and all come with an ocean front terrace, are huge contenders as well. And its onsite restaurant, Tapanco, not only serves delicious Mexican and Mexican cuisine-inspired international fares, but it also offers a wonderful view of migrating whales. casadelmar.com.mx/en/ | +52 624 145 7700 | Doubles start at $176
Hacienda Encantada Resort & Spa
Nestled atop thundering, rocky cliffs overlooking the Sea of Cortez, the family-owned Hacienda Encantada certainly has views that are hard to beat. The property is massive, boasting several buildings and sections as well as several room and villa categories, pool areas—two of which have sweeping views of the ocean, and six onsite restaurants. But it still holds a charming, old-fashioned hacienda air that you’ll be hard-pressed to find in other resorts. A luxurious suite is the way to go here, where guests are pampered to dreamy hacienda-style furnishings and modern amenities like granite countertops and energy-saving HVAC shutoffs. haciendaencantada.com/ | +52 624 163 5550 | Doubles start at $176
Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa

The Grand Solmar Resort at Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas is not one for understatement. From its luxurious contemporary suites that are bursting in colors and imbued with extraordinary views of the Pacific to its amazing setting practically a stone’s throw away from Cabo’s southernmost tip where the famed Lovers Beach, Divorce Beach and El Arco lie, this gorgeous property is all about heavenly indulgence.
There’s a private beach, a glorious pool area with infinity edge pools, and a rustic seaside spa. Despite being in close proximity to the destination’s party central, guests can slip into the slower rhythm here and simply unwind. grandsolmarresort.com/ | +52 624 144 2500 | Rates start at $412
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel
The Thompson Hotel group has always been a master hotelier—its hotels all over the world each flaunt a distinctive personality that when coupled with elegant luxury is wildly appealing. And its beachfront property, The Cape, is no exception. Set outside Cabo San Lucas next to the famous Monuments Beach, the ultra modern, SoCal-meets-Baja, nine-category hotel is without a doubt one of the destination’s most beautiful boutique properties.
Each of the Cape’s guest rooms features a private balcony with an epic ocean panorama, a state-of-the-art bathroom with a rain shower and copper-leafed tub, and a craft cocktail bar, to name a few. thompsonhotels.com/hotels/The-Cape-Los-Cabos | +52 624 163 0000 | Rates start at $419
