It's summer and therefore pool season is in full swing.
And while pools are pretty common amenities that can be found at most hotels and resorts, a select few hotel pools are destinations in and of themselves.
Whether its on the beach or under a glass dome, the best hotel pools offer both excitement and serenity.
Below we'll examine five hotel pools in the U.S. that do just that and then some.
Fairmont Scottsdale Princess
Where: Scottsdale, Arizona
The Sonoran Splash Pool at Arizona's Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is the perfect setting to enjoy the desert sun with your family this summer.
The 6,000-square-foot pool area boasts a pair of water slides that kids and adults can ride as well as rentable cabanas equipped with flat screen televisions and refrigerators.
There's even a zero-entry pool deck and sandbox area for the really little ones.
Delano South Beach
Where: Miami Beach, Florida
Miami is renowned for its beautiful beaches, but the gorgeous Florida coastline is rivaled by the Beach Club at the Delano South Beach.
The five-star hotel's outdoor pool exudes style and is complemented by a relaxing atmosphere and lively music.

In addition to comfortable cabanas, the 7,000-square-foot Beach Club boasts a pool bar as well as direct access to the ocean in case the saltwater comes calling.
Sheraton Waikiki
Where: Honolulu, Hawaii
Like Miami, Waikiki Beach is among the world's best. Nonetheless guests staying at the Sheraton Waikiki are sure to fall in love with the hotel's pools.
Known as Helumoa Playground, the hotel's dual pool area features a 70-foot-long water slide, a pair of whirlpools, an outdoor event space, an interactive fountain area for younger guests and food and beverage offerings. The summertime paradise also includes a pool hut where guests can purchase everything from sunblock to floating toys.

For adults, the hotel's Edge of Waikiki infinity pool (pictured above) promises some of the best views of the surrounding beaches.
Harrah's Resort Atlantic City
Where: Atlantic City, New Jersey
The Pool at Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City is a must-visit year-round thanks to the glass dome it sits under. But on top of cabanas and other pool area enhancements, The Pool features five hot tubs for guests to soak in as well as live DJ performances on Saturdays.
If you're in Atlantic City this summer but aren't staying at Harrah's Resort, you can access The Pool for $10 Sunday through Friday or $20 on Saturday.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's stellar array of pools have been honored time and again on lists like this one and for good reason.
Set on five acres, highlights include the Nirvana Pool, Breathe Pool and Paradise Beach.

Paradise Beach more than lives up to its name and is a hit with younger adult guests thanks to Rehab Sundays and Summer Camp Fridays that help transform it into the ultimate party destination.
Meanwhile, Nirvana Beach is open to guests of all ages and features a sand beach, daybeds, cabanas, a bar and grill and even swim-up blackjack.
