A vacation rental doesn't always beat out a hotel room in terms of value, but with the Fourth of July holiday coming up accommodations in summer hot spots across the U.S. are in high demand.
Just in time for the annual summer celebration of America's independence, TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals has revealed eight popular destinations where travelers can save big by opting for a vacation rental over a hotel room.
TripAdvisor compared the average price of a pair of three- and four-star hotel rooms to the average price of a two-bedroom vacation rental in each destination, revealing monumental savings across the board.
"A vacation rental can save travelers up to 70 percent on their accommodation costs in popular Fourth of July destinations," said TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals spokesperson Laurel Greatrix in a statement. "On Cape Cod, for example, the average two-bedroom rental is $535 cheaper per night than the average cost for two hotel rooms."
As pointed out, travelers visiting Cape Cod, Massachusetts this holiday stand to save significantly by booking a vacation rental over a hotel room. Here, the average nightly rate for two hotel rooms between July 1 and July 4 is $763, while the average nightly rate for a two-bedroom vacation rental during that same period of time is just $228.
In addition to saving travelers money, a vacation rental can often provide additional benefits around the Fourth of July.
"In many cases, these rentals also offer travelers extra space and amenities like backyards, grills and pools, making the weekend that much more enjoyable," added Greatrix.
Charleston, South Carolina isn't far behind Cape Cod when it comes to vacation rental value, with vacation rental guests in South Carolina's oldest city able to save as much as 68 percent or $451 per night from July 1 through July 4.
Travelers visiting Boston and New Orleans also stand to save more than 50 percent by opting for a two-bedroom vacation rental over two three- or four-star hotel rooms.
Vacation rentals also make lots of sense for those looking to take in fireworks in other big cities including Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Nashville. Over the course of Fourth of July weekend travelers visiting these cities will likely save anywhere between 41 and 47 percent by swapping a hotel room in favor of a vacation rental.
While Houston ranked eighth in terms of savings, a vacation rental here can still save travelers $99 per night on average compared to two hotel rooms.
