Just a year after the debut of the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, the property was in ruins. Hurricane Odile made sure of that, focusing what seemed a disproportionate measure of fury on this particular property as it moved along the coast. But this swirling cloud had a silver lining, in that the rebuilding of the property created something so much more than what it was.

Perhaps no other Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara embodies the company's tag line "the Evolution of All-Inclusive," better than the Los Cabos resort. The renovated property now boasts some fancy new upgrades and the hotel took the time to smooth out some of its kinks. It's truly come a long way in a year.

After being one of the first Hyatt Zivas in operation, the property was battered by Odile as it stormed through Los Cabos on Sept. 14, 2014. So for the past year, the property has undergone an extensive rebuilding process, strengthening the foundations of the resort to be able to withstand the rare Category 4 storms that pass through the area every 50 or so years and upgrading the overall experiences at the property.

"In recreating Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, we have transformed an already beautiful resort and further infused the rich culture and spirit of Mexico's Baja," said Alex Stadlin, CEO of Playa Resorts Management. "We believe Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos will offer a superb experience for all-inclusive vacationers, conference attendees and wedding couples and we look forward to welcoming our guests and delivering Service from the Heart."

After being here for just 24 hours, I can personally attest to the fact that the team has gotten the new, enhanced dining right, one of the main focuses of the resort's reinvention. During the renovation, the hotel moved its Italian restaurant to the beach and expanded the popular specialty dining restaurant, Dozo, offering Asian fusion cuisine. The restaurant, which used to see wait times that could reach up to two hours, has nearly doubled in size and features a sushi bar, teppanyaki dining stations and a la carte dining with intimate tatami-style seating.

There is also a new coffee bar in the lobby and a 24-hour deli for guests who just want to grab a bite on the go or who arrive late in the night and prefer not to wait for room service.

In redoing the rooms for the resort, the team added more family suites, master suites and pullout couches in each room, increasing the number of occupants that these spaces can inhabit and making the "all-ages" resort more suitable for families. The resort now currently offers 591 oceanfront and oceanview guestrooms and one- and two-bedroom suites, including 34 swim-up suites.

Rooms also have all new furniture and softgoods and feature high-end amenities such as stocked minibars, Sony flat-screen televisions, Jacuzzi tubs and KenetMD bath products that make the experience feel seamless to Hyatt guests.

Complimentary wedding ceremonies are also available with wedding packages in a choice of venues, including the beach pavilion or sky view wedding suite. The spa also offers brides a special retreat, where she and her attendants can get ready together, sip champagne and relax together before the big day.

Other resort enhancements include a new KidZ Club with a waterpark, a tree house and a seasonal turtle-release program. There is a new Hyatt Gold Passport Club Lounge, a streamlined registration process for meeting attendees and incentive groups in a dedicated meeting and events lobby that is adjacent to the resort's 35,000 square feet of meeting space.

For guests, the property has a high-end feel that is reminiscent of the Hyatt brand as a whole. Similar to Hyatt resorts around the world, the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos provides its guests with a sense of place. Artwork and embellishments around the property have a sophisticated, Mexican flare. The staff is attentive and welcoming and the property, although large in scale, provides intimate settings for couples, families and groups to come together.

Although, the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos was a stellar property from the get-go, her second debut is definitely a worthy upgrade.
