WHY IT RATES:The largest resort in Africa will be built in Zanzibar and ready for guests in 2020- Eric Bowman, TravelPulse Senior Editor

Pennyroyal Gibraltar Limited has announced the development of the Zanzibar Amber Resort, a luxury tropical community set off the coast of Tanzania. With construction already underway and the first phase to be open for guests in 2020, the resort is set to change the face of Tanzanian tourism as we know it through offering sustainable, world-class facilities and the social upliftment of Zanzibar.

Stretching across 1520 hectares of the Indian Ocean coastline, the development will host an exclusive portfolio of five international hotels and over water lodges to choose from. But if a short-term stay is not enough, the development will also offer an array of premium residency options, which for the first time in the history of Zanzibar, will be available for purchase by non-residents varying from penthouse condominiums to luxury villas and private islands.

Zanzibar Amber Resort offers guest East Africa's first signature 18-hole golf course, deep water mooring on the Marina, a water park and an underwater restaurant and nightclub offering a holiday experience that is unmatched by any other resort in the world.

Nurtured in a multi-cultural society, Zanzibar boasts a rich history, all which has been preserved to the present day. Take a day away from the resort and explore one of the island's many tourist attractions, including World Heritage Site, the House of Wonders, the Sultan's palace, the Turkish baths or take a day-long spice tour, for which the island is famous four.

Pennyroyal Gibraltar Ltd. defines its role in in society as being held accountable for the island's communities, culture and environment. As a result, the Zanzibar Amber Resort aims to sustainably and economically transform the island and its community at large with maximum positive effects, whilst being culturally responsible, socially desirable and ecologically and environmentally friendly. 'Best of Zanzibar', the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative geared towards continuously uplifting locals.
