When AIC Hotel Group debuts its premiere Unico Hotel in Riviera Maya late this year, it will introduce more than an adults-only, all-inclusive retreat. Playing up native culture and locale, its “20° N 87° W” moniker will also play on the longitude and latitude of its Yucatan Peninsula setting in Quintana Roo.

The nomenclature of each property will reflect its distinctive global location. To create a sense of place and space, individual hotels will step outside the traditional box of hyping heritage by embracing contemporary culture to connect guests with a more genuine taste of the region.

Throughout the portfolio, signature perks will include an in-room gallery with local art available for purchase, plus an “Experience Room” for selecting personalized, locally sourced in-room amenities and resort gear. Guests can select their preference of shampoos, conditioners, lotions and fragrances.

Among the food and beverage concepts will be either an on-site brewery or distillery that showcases ingredients and flavors distinctive to the surrounding area, plus an annual rotating chef restaurant concept that will highlight emerging flavors and talents.

With interiors designed by AvroKo and exteriors by Artigas, the brand’s trailblazing Riviera Maya resort invites its guests to “meet modern Mexico face-to-face with flexible programming and no-itinerary-necessary attitude.” In other words, guests are encouraged to live in the moment. The property’s tapped-in staff of experts will serve as “guides” during immersive experiences.

20° N 87° W will feature 448 guestrooms. Most will offer an ocean view, while others are created with a double hydro spa tub or plunge pool option. Other resort features will include three swimming pools, four gourmet restaurants, a crafted mini-bar for concocting do-it-yourself cocktails, and five bars and lounges — including a cigar lounge and two swim-up bars.

To encourage healthy travel, the wellness center will indulge with a spa featuring 18 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy circuit, a Hammam, steam room and sauna room. The fitness facility will allow guests to tune into specialty classes, plus personal training sessions and a visiting instructor program. The hotel’s “Elsewhere” covers special events and functions with its 11,600-square-foot ballroom, pair of breakout rooms and outdoor space.

According to a statement released by AIC, a guest experience app will let savvy guests plug into weekly details on culturally inspired, immersive activities that range from mixology and cooking classes, to lectures by local experts and tours to off-the-beaten-path areas.

The former All Inclusive Collection recently changed its name to AIC to better reflect its evolution as a more all-encompassing collection of properties. Its impressive portfolio includes Hard Rock Hotels in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, Eden Roc Miami Beach and Nobu Hotel Miami Beach.

Aside from the grand opening of Unico Hotel’s 20° N 87° W in Riviera Maya, AIC plans call for the Miami-based company to roll out a 200-room Nobu Hotel Los Cabos and 600-room Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos in 2017. To stay current on details, visit and enter your email address for updates.
